Summertime!

I’ve set out on a new project, together with Emil on violin, and Aaron Larget-Caplan on classical guitar. We’re calling it “Summertime”: A modern virtuoso show that features short Jazz, Spanish, Gypsy, and Contemporary works alongside classical masterpieces by Piazzolla, Paganini, Gershwin, Zorn, Bach and more.
I’m accompanying them with my guitar-style cello fingerpicking, so it’s basically adding bass to some of the pieces they’ve already been playing at their shows. We’ve done one show together at the New School of Music already, where I played on Piazzolla’s “Libertango.” We’re already arranging new pieces, so I should be on a few more numbers at the next show.
“Summertime” also marks our collaborating with Maximiliana Da Silva, manager and event producer at Talent, the Agency. For more information, check out the page I made on Emil’s site about this new project: www.emilaltschuler.com/summertime

Ok, I’ve made a few incarnations of my brother’s site in the past, but I think I finally made one today that will stick. I basically cloned my site, so they will be identical except for the actual content in the sites. I suspect we’ll gradually change the look of it, but for now this is the most convenient way to get it up and running. Check it out.

I’ve made a new column over to the right for advertisements. Right now they are just Google ads, but my plan is to make some custom-made ones for local venues, music stores, music organizations in my area. I’m not sure exactly on how to go about doing this. I figure I just start approaching places and asking them if they are interested. Then I just go ahead and work on something that will look nice in Photoshop. I might finally learn some Flash too. I figure I have to get more traffic to this site before I can convince people to pay me for putting up ads here.
Also, I’ve started a new section for sheet music and tablature. I figure it might be nice to have everything I do written out in case someone else wants to take a hack at it. I know I could have used some good quality tablature when I was trying to figure out the Leo Kottke/John Fahey/Doc Watson material. Also, there’s not much tab transcribed for classical music. It’s always in treble clef, and no one really reads that except classically trained guitarists. I figure I’ll post anything I transcribe myself.
For now, I’ve posted a cello part I just wrote for “Libertango,” by Astor Piazzolla. I accompanied my brother, Emil (violin), and Aaron Larget-Caplan (guitar) by backing them up with this strumming cello part. It’s really acting as a bass accompaniment.

I have a solo show coming up in Cambridge on May 9th at 8PM at Outpost 186 for their “Cello Alley Series.” Outpost 186 is an extension of the Zeitgeist Gallery, and located right in Inman Square on 186 1/2 Hampshire St. I’ll be playing a mix of mostly folk songs, using cello and a few guitars. Expect music ranging from John Fahey to Primus to Dock Boggs to Beck to Doc Watson to Leo Kottke and back to John Fahey.
